The King issued a Christmas message to the Navy and
Army. " In the officers and men-of my Navy . . . I repose, in common with all my subjects, a trust that is absolute." On the officers and men of the Armies the King relies with an equal faith," confident that their devotion and valour will, under God's ,guidance, lead to victory. After a touching reference to the wounded and sick in hospital, the King concludes : " Officers and men of the Navy and of the. Army, another year is drawing to a close -as it began, in toil, bloodshed, and suffering, and I rejoice to know that the goal to which you are striving draws nearer into sight. May God bless you and all your undertakings." The message is worthy to take its place with the others from the King. They are all marked by, the same simplicity and true, strong feeling. The response of the country is a silent determination not to disappoint the King's confidence.
