Brother Jeffrey

Sir: To say that my brother is mistaken when he claims (Low life, 18 January) that I don't know the difference between Red Rum and Rita Hayworth is to miss the effortless charm of his sentence, which holds up to ridicule three individuals repre- senting three classes of creatures Jeffrey absolutely dotes on: horses, poets, actresses.

I can't think of another writer dead or alive — let alone both — who is quite so fond of having his cake, eating it and offering the reader a slice.
