Uphill finish
WHAT A pleasure to see Flakey Dove storm home in the Champion Hurdle with- out the Chancellor of the Exchequer trying to creep up on her inside. Year after year, chancellors would time their budgets for Cheltenham week and I would object to them for bumping and boring. Mine was an uphill effort, but at last it got home. Norman Lamont's budgets were the last of their kind and the least that Cheltenham's graceless management can do is to name a race in his honour. It will be something to remember him by, like Michael Heseltine's garden.
