THE Sunday Times patted itself on the back last week

for having refrained from comment on. Ghana's expulsion of its correspondent, Mr. Russell Howe, as the case was before the Com- monwealth Press Union : 'The Union has now issued its protest, which we entirely endorse.' But it would have looked better if it had not waited till then to add, 'Our confidence in Mr. Howe's journalistic integrity is unshaken.' To wait for an outside body to pronounce upon the professional integrity of a correspondent before sticking up for him in its own columns strikes me as pretty pusil- lanimous, even for a Kemsley newspaper.
