Georgia not on his mind
Sir: In his review of Three Sisters (15 December) Christopher Edwards finds the production remarkably unChekhovian, ' particularly since the director, Robert Sturua, is 'the internationally acclaimed Russian director and head of the Rustaveli Theatre'.
Mr Sturua will find this characterisation rather more insulting than would a Welsh- man dubbed English. He is a Georgian and his Tbilisi-based theatre company is named after a potent figure for Georgia's national- ists, the 13th-century poet Shota Rustaveli. Wholly different in language, culture and ethos, Chekhov was as Georgian and Robert Sturua is as Russian as Mr Edwards is French.
