Sapphic suggestion
From Diana Chapman Sir: Reading Petronella Wyatt's column last week (Singular life, 12 February) one might think that homosexuality was confined to the male sex. It seems that in regard to les- bianism nothing has changed since Queen Victoria's time.
Ms Wyatt might at least spare a kindly thought for female gays who, by opting out of the competition, leave more of such het- erosexual males as remain to be wooed, if not actually won, by her.
