The King has returned to England after spending a week
with his armies in the field. Arriving in France on Tuesday week, the King visited the Northern portion of the British front, and then proceeding to the Somme area, on Thursday went forward over the ground covered by our advance and devastated by recent battles, in sight of Fricourt, Hornets, Contd. maison, Montauban, Trones Wood, and Pozieres, and within range of the enemy's heavy guns. On Saturday, with Sir Douglas Haig, he met President Poineare, General Jolfre and General Foch, on Sunday he attended a religious service with his troops, and on Monday he visited the King and Queen of the Belgians.
