The Temptation of Our Lord. By the late Norman - Macleod,
D.D. (Strahan.)—We have always thought that Mr. Maurice's sermons on the Temptation (in the volume entitled "Christmas Day and other Sermons) so dealt with the subject as to leave little hope for others who might seek to handle it. This volume, then, comes at a certain disad vantage. Still we can see its value. Its theology is reasonable and sound, and it is expressed in language which, if seldom rising into positive eloquence, is always clear, and sometimes forcible.
