Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen. Translated by Mrs. E.
Lucas, and illustrated by Thomas, Charles, and William Robinson. (Dent and Co. 5s.)—This translation is well written, and there is a freedom and a quaintness about Mrs. Lucas's prose very appropriate to the subject. She says in the preface that she has spoken Danish and English indiscriminately all her life, and besides this knowledge of they language she has a true appreciation of the wonderful poetry and mysticism of the original. The illustrations are rather unequal, but the frontis- piece in which the little mermaid is seen rising through the waves is very pretty.
