TOURIST TRAVEL. . .
The reduction of the visa fees between France and United States from $10 to $2 is generally welcomed. The change would have been even more welcome had it meant the abolition of visa requirements altogether, such as has taken place in countries like Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland. The removal of visa requirements would do much to stimulate foreign travel. It is earnestly to be hoped that, when the matter is arranged between the British and American Governments, there will be a complete elimination of the visa fee. It is a noteworthy fact that although the amount of available accom- modation for tourists since the War has increased 100 per cent., the increase in tourist travel itself has been almost negligible. Steamship companies here are making unusual efforts to stimulate tourist travel, particularly by attempting to popularize the extension of the tourist season, instead of having it confined as hitherto to about six weeks, in either
