Jamaica in 1866. By Thomas Harvey and William Brewin. (A.

W. Benuett.)—The writers of this volume "resigned themselves to the service of proceeding to Jamaica" shortly after the insurrection, as a deputation from the Society of Friends. Their journal, which is now published, gives several interesting details of the state of the island, and confirms many of the views expressed in these columns. We do not know that anything new is added to the reports of the Royal Com- mission as to the measures taken by the troops and the Executive, but other blots are hit in the system of government, and deserve attention.
