On Monday evening, on his return from the House of
Commons, Sir Robert Peel was followed by a great crowd of respectable persons, who cheered him. On turning into Whitehall Gardens, the Right Honour- able Baronet bowed, when he again received the helirty applause of the assembled multitude. The Police here endeavoured to prevent the populace from further following Sir Robert ; but the people rushed past the Police, and followed the popular statesman to his own door, when, after three hearty cheers, they gradually dispersed.—Morning Post. [The Whig papers say that Peel was hooted, and that the Police were required to protect him from violence. Perhaps he was both cheered and hissed.]
