Dr. Gilbert C. Bourne explodes a number of heresies and

gives his own very sound and well-documented counsel in A Text-Book of Oarsmanship (Oxford University Press). The title is very modest for it is at once a history and an encyclopaedia of the theory of rowing. The book is beauti- fully printed in an honest, craftsmanlike way—with well- proportioned pages and readable type.
