SIR,—Your 'Despised' correspondence reminds me of an occasion before the
war when I was staying at our Embassy in Rome. A young honorary attache, asked during dinner how he proposed to amuse us for the remainder of the evening, replied, 'Let's go round the native quarter.' By that, he meant the rest of Rome!—Yours faithfully,
