Sir Lawrence Weaver We much regret the death of Sir
Lawrence Weaver. As architect, countryman, town-planner and lover of beauty (in stone or brick or scenery) he made his opinions felt with an energy which will be desperately missed. His personal touch in the management of the British Empire Exhibitions at Wembley was unmistakable ; he was alive with enthusiasm for taste and seemliness. Some of the pedestrians of trade learnt lessons from him which they have never forgotten. As President of the Architecture Club he carried on his good work. All his books and all his work on public bodies testify to his love of the thrilling adventure of raising the national standards of architecture, craftsmanship, lettering, gardens, exhibitions and roads. He could convey his enthusiasm to others, and he had the knack of getting what he wanted out of a meeting.
