How do blind persons manage to use an automatic telephone
? The reply is given by the Postmaster-General in a written answer, which attracted no attention, last week. Arrangements, said Mr. Paling, are made to mark the edge of the dial fingerplate with small file-cuts against the numbers four and seven. He added the interest- ing information that this device was adopted some years ago on the suggestion of Sir Ian Fraser, the blind Member for Lonsdale. Apparently three fixed points (the o being one) are enough to enable a blind person to find any other number by quick calculation.
