Interesting self-blocks and interference on Black's K 4.

In the typical forms of the Ruy Lopez, White tries to maintain a grip on the centre and slowly

201 build up a king's side attack; in doing this, however, he frequently gets behindhand. with his develop.' mein and many of the Black defences (the Marshall Attack is thp most notable example) attempt ,to exploit thii and break through before White has consolidated his grip. Here is an example of what c/In happen when White plays weakly.
