" EIGHT STATES PROTEST "
[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR] StR,—Thus the contents sheet of the Sunday Times last Sunday ! Women and children, the sick, the maimed, the halt and the blind are torn apart by bombs ; killed or mutilated (probably both) in one part of the world ; Jews are harried and hunted, badgered and battered in another, and no State lifts a finger or raises a voice ; but when another threatens—no more than that—to default in a money payment comes immediately the protest of eight States. Eight enlightened States ! Well, Savage Club.
