The Pope celebrated his jubilee on Friday. It has been

for ages a tradition in Rome, embodied in the services of consecra- tion, that no Pope would hold power for 25 years, the period -of the Papacy attributed to Peter ; but the tradition has at length failed. The Italian Government has explicitly authorized all ceremonials, processions, or other special honours paid to the -occasion.
