The list of subscriptions for the great War Loan is

now closing. The result of the appeal to the nation's pockets has yet to be announced, but the omens point to a decisive success. The Loan was not only issued on more generous terms than the preceding War Loans, but it was also far more vigorously advocated and skilfully advertised, and the various methods of subscribing were simplified so that the poorest and most ignorant citizens might take their share.
