The Metropolitan Commissioners of Sewers, yesterday, received the report of
the Committee appointed to consider the merits of the plans for draining the Metropolis. One hundred and seventy-eight plans are classified and criticized. That of Mr. J. B. M'Clean is lauded as com- prehensive and judicious, displaying elaborate study, care and skill : it proposes a well-devised system of intercepting sewers, generally following the main thoroughfares, and avoiding extensive interference with property; the main North sewer running from Battle Bridge, eight miles, to the Thames below the river Lea. The plans of Messrs. Nasmyth and Statham, Mr. J. Bayley Denton, Mr. J. Phillips, and Mr. H. Austin, are also praised, in a first class, and some score more in a second class of merit. The report was adopted, and referred to a Committee.
