The Chancellor of the Exchequer is believed to have given

up all intention of proposing any reduction of the Newspaper Stamp and Advertisement Duties. The small surplus now expected on the financial year, will go towards reducing the Assessed Taxes, if the House of Commons should, contrary to the wish of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, insist on a reduction.
