The Irish Difficulty : Shall and Will. By Gerald Molloy,
D.D. (Blackie and Son.)—One would hardly suppose that so much
could have been said on the use and misuse of the two auxiliaries
4‘. shall " and "will" as has been said here by Dr. Molloy. Not the least interesting part of his treatise is his proof that the modern one has not always prevailed. Shakespeare's use, for instance, is often what would now be called provincial. Dr. Molloy collects examples of the correct use of the words, and of the latitude which is allowed. There is an interesting discussion in the "prophetic shall."
