History of Art in Phrygia, Lydia, Caria, and Lycia. By

George Perrot and Charles Chipiez. (Chapman and Hall.)—This is one of the well-known series with which Messrs. Perrot and Chipiez have so greatly enlarged our knowledge of art, especially non- Hellenic art. Phrygia occupies more than half the volume, the final chapter of the section devoted to it containing a discussion of the important subject of " The Influence of Phrygian Civilisa- tion on Hellenic Culture." A second section deals with Lydia and Caria ; a third, with Lycia. Readers who are acquainted with this valuable series are aware that it includes in its scope other matters besides art, which, though the main purpose of the whole, is blended in its connection with races, religion, civilisa- tion, and general history.
