The Argentine's Claims
The Argentine Republic is not letting her interests be lost sight of when Dominion. Preferences on its two principal exports, wheat and meat, are in the air. And the Argentine is quite right. To put her at a disadvantage as compared with Canada and Australia when our volume of trade with her is far larger than with either
of those Dominions would be both' unwise and unfair. The ties between this country and the Argentine have been drawn closer in recent months by the Prince of Wales' visit and Lord D'Abemein's mission, and justice and expediency alike, particularly in view of the vast amounts of British capital sunk in Argentine agriculture and industry, demand that the trade between the two countries shall be defended against prejudice from Dominion Preferences. But to admit the Argentine inside the Preference enclosure, as has been rather strangely suggested, would raise very far-reaching issues.
