[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—Has Mr. Baldwin joined
the Bricklayers' Union ? "Restrict the output and keep up the price" is their policy. Mr. Baldwin would apply the same on a national scale. Such a policy may pay the bricklayers, at the nation's expense, but it is hard to imagine how we could make such, a policy pay in face of foreign competition.—I am, Sir, &c., Rathmore, Elgin.
FRED GOURLAY.
P.S.—Have we a monopoly in coal, cotton, wool, &c. ? ISTo wonder you say the House of Commons was "amazed."
