An alarming fire broke out at five o'clock this morning,
in the ex- tensive oil-a.)01 turpentine warehouses of Messrs. Pinchin and Johnson, situate in the New Road, St. George's East, and adjoining the Black- wall Railway. The flames spread with rapidity, and extended to three closed arches of the railway, whicli were used by the firm as ware- houses. Here some turpentine was stored, and it exploded with great violence. Before an engine could be brought the whole of the ware- houses were on fire, and they were soon reduced to a heap of ruins. The property under the arches was insured for 1,0001., but it is valued at 3,0001.; the value of the goods in the main building is not stated. Six or seven neighbouring houses were seriously injured. For some hours the trains were not permitted to run on the railway ; but an examina- tion proved it to be still quite safe, as the arches were but slightly in- jured.
