READABLE NOVELS. —Beauty for Asks. By Joan Sutherland. (Hodder and

By Alice Hegan Rice and Cale Young Rice. (Hodder and Stoughton. 8s. 6d. net.)—Turn About Tales are told by two authors, and it is difficult to see why they should have been arranged in chapters as the stories concerned have nothing to do with each other. Burt. (Con- stable. 7s. 6d. net.)—An American story in which the mysteries of secret passages and gangs of villains are fully exploited. It is a pity that by the exigencies of the plot the villain of the piece is required to be the mother of the heroine.
