Fantasia on a favourite Irish Melody, for the Pianoforte. Coin-

posed by F. MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY. This fantasia, on the beautiful air, "'Tis the last rose of summer," discovers the author's command of the instrument; but we cannot re- gard it as one of his happiest efforts. Were he standing at our elbow, he could probably explain some effects of which we are unable to fathom the intention or design. The arrangement of the melody, with which the fantasia concludes, is exquisitely beautiful.
