I HAD NOT REALISED the extent to which Dr. Mead

had diverted her attention from the inhabitants of, the islands of the Pacific to the inhabitants of the Continents of the New World. Dr. Mead has the good news that the matriarchal society, of which we have heard so much from Mr. Geoffrey Gorer and others, is developing a charitable streak towards the dispossessed. There is,. Dr. Mead says, a strong 'Mink for Father' movement, which manifests itself in allowing him to buy—in addition to the station wagon which is required to contain the family—a swift, sleek roadster: an MG, perhaps, or a Jaguar.
