The Duke of Devonshire is recovering, and intends to leave

Naples for England in April. It is intended to abolish the provisions in the Customs Acts by which service in the Navy is made a punishment for smuggling offences.

Letters from Sydney, New South Wales, of the 17th of August, state the arrival there of the first vessel with free female settlers, 215 in number. In three days, no less than 189 of them were engaged, and there was no doubt that the whole of them would in a few days be pro- vided for.
