The Daily News of Tuesday added some new informs- tion

to what had already been published about the new German process for converting coal into oil. Professor Bergius, of Heidelberg, the inventor of the process, says that after twelve years of research the method by means of hydrogenation may be regarded as technically perfected. On an average, he says, half a ton of oil is obtained from one ton of coal. The application of the method, he remarks, will enable countries rich in coal to cover their own needs in benzine, machine oil and lubricating oil from their own coal. He adds that the complete realiza- tion of the industrial possibilities thus opened up will depend upon the enterprise and the financial resources which coal-rich countries bring to bear upon the new industrial revolution.
