Cat :die Oaths—Lord Eldon moved for an account of the number of Catholics who had taken the oaths pre- scribed to them by the Acts of Parliament since 1813, with a view to see how many Catholics had taken the benefits allowed them by these acts, without performing the conditions.—Ordered. FRIDAY, March 13.—Catholie Claims—Numerous petitions on both sides of the question presented. Catholic Oaths—Lord Eldon moved for an account of the Ca- tholics in England, who, since the year 1813, had taken the benefit of the Act of • 1791, relieving them from certain disabilities on their swearing allegiance to the succession to the Throne under the Act of Settlement : Speakers—the Marquis of Lansdowne, the Lord Chancellor, Lord Redesdale, and Lord Plunkett ; the latter moved for a return of all Protestants and Dissenters who had taken the oaths of Abjuration and Supremacy since the year 1813; and the Earl of Eldon seconded this. The Duke of Wellington urged that both motions should be withdrawn, which was agreed to. Adjourned at nine o'clock.
