Mr. Seward has really bought and, according to the Herald,
taken possession of St. Thomas and St. Croix, the Danish West India Islands, which will, therefore, be governed as a Territory. It is by no liaisons certain, however, that the transaction will be completed, the House of Representatives having passed a vote forbidding the acquisition of more territory. The vote of appro- priation, therefore, will probably be refused. It is quite possible, however, that the resolution is directed only against future purchases.
