Family Service Units

Sir: It was gratifying to read Custos's favourite comments on the work of Family Service Units in your issue of March 24.

However, I would like to correct the impression that FSU is paying poverty wages to its employees. Custos's calculations included part time secretarial and domestic workers and, therefore, the average salary figure obtained is misleading. FSU does, in fact, operate the same scale as local authorities and this gives a prof essionallY qualified social worker a minimum starting salary of £1,689.
