Sir: I find the whole treatment of ITV by Messrs Shulman, Raven and Brock insufferably superior and condescending. Why in heaven's name shouldn't people see what they want to see? What a prig Mr Brock must have been (or how well-bred, ugh!) if he never had a chocolaty face or raided the pantry. Perhaps priggishness is the clue: " Shall there be no more cakes and ale because thou hest grown virtuous?"

I have never understood why the BBC consider it necessary to compete for numbers since they exist on a compulsory levy on all owners of TV sets.
