(To THE EDITOR OP THE " SPF.CIATOR."1 Sta,—It may interest
readers of an article in your issue of March 31st to know that the first suggestion contained in it has already been adopted, and will be carried ont next term in many Public Schools. Boys who volunteer for this work are to bo organized in squads, each in charge of a master, and they will be prepared to go at short notice to a centre within easy distance of the school. Here they will be suitably boarded and will go to their work in smaller parties on bicycles. Each squad will work on the land for a fortnight and then return to school till it is needed again. Smaller squads will be regy as before to work on farms close to the school. During August and September many parties of schoolboys will be at work at the harvest and in lumber camps. hhe Director-General of National Service, who was already con- sidering schemes for utilizing schoolboy labour, has accepted the Offer of the Cavendish Association to place its organization at his disposal, and the arrangements will be carried out by a National Service Committee containing representatives of the Cavendish Association, end of other organizations desiring to offer assist- epee in providing labour on the land during holiday time. The organization of the work has been undertaken by this Committee at the request of the Director-General of National Service. What will be the extent of the demand for the boys cannot at present be determined. But we hope that a considerable and a -very willing reinforcement of labour will be ready by the middle of May.—We are, Sir, &e.,
A. A. Dsyse (Rugby).
