As a protest against scientific intolerance no less than as
a profession of faith Sir Oliver Lodge's address is a memorable utterance. It is a remarkable sign of the comprehensiveness of science that in two successive years two such Presidential Addresses as those of Professor Schafer and of Sir Oliver Lodge should be delivered at the British Association. In this context we may add that on Thursday honours degrees were conferred at the University of Birmingham on several dis- tinguished foreigners, including Professor Lorentz of Leiden, Dr. Arrhenius, and Madame Curie, whom Sir Oliver Lodge introduced as "the greatest woman of science of all time."
