New Zealand whine

Sir: Not for the first time, Auberon Waugh refers to 'colonial' wines, usually in the con- text of the Antipodes (Spectator Wine Club, 29 August). I don't think he includes South Africa, once, like us, also a colony. He probably doesn't realise that down this end of the planet we find the term patronis- ing and insulting.
