In the House of Commons the Speaker read a letter
from Sir Robert Young resigning the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ways and Means. We are very glad of the publicity given to this document. Whether Sir Robert wished the House to be made aware of the facts in order to impress them, or not, we cannot say. But the country will take note of the words, " My trade union executive expressed the opinion that I should tender my resignation." This is another and a flagrant example of how the Parliamentary government, of which we boast, is being usurped. Such dictation from without is intolerable. Sir Dennis Herbert was appointed to Sir Robert's office on the motion of the Prime Minister, who then moved that the House should go into Committee to consider Ways and Means for raising Supply.
