THE VALOUR OF THEIR OWN HEARTS "
SIR,—John Buchan (Lord Tweedsmuir) wrote a history of the last war, the volumes coming out every quarter or so as the war went on. la describing a very gallant charge of the Caucasians on the Wisloka against the massed German artillery he used the phrase, " Taking counsel with the valour of their own hearts." Struck with the splendour of the word, I wrote and asked him if it was his own. He replied that he thought it was, but that there was something like it in the Greek. It seems to me that the phrase is worth preserving.—
