NEWS OF THE WEEK

PVE RgITY is -being turned to what -we trust will be glorious gain in Ireland. The boundary settlement is by far the greatest event of the .week. The circum- stances gave the Prime Minister an opportunity for exercising his specially happy talent for reconciliation. :The events of the past few weeks have caused a very distinct rise - in the prestige of the Government. The Locarno Treaty and the Irish . Agreement are great achievements.' And other facts seem to be fighting in their courses to help the Government. The unemploy- mient • figures are improving week by week, and the increased confidence in the Government has been reflected :in the by-eleetions. There are agreeable signs of a pacific temper in industry. For instance, the railway companies and the trade unions have agreed to let wages remain as they are. Both sides have yielded, .The-great Press attack upon Mr. Baldwin has failed ; the edge of the weariful has been turned, and, we need not be accused of sritidinlness if . we -say that • as a matter of fact the assailants of the Prime Minister have done him much more good. than harm.
