The Pope has been suffering from an attack of influenza,
and early in the week his temperature was so high and the action of the heart so weak that the doctors were very anxious. Rome is fall of pilgrims, and the Pope has been much depressed at being forbidden to receive them. Thousands of them knelt outside the Vatican and prayed for his recovery. On Wednesday there was a marked improvement, and the doctors predict the Pope's complete recovery if he is careful to take enough rest.
