' The Sacred Harmonic Society have published their annual report

; which exhibits a prosperous condition of affairs. The number of sub- Scribers continues progressively to increase : in 1851 it was 642 ; in 1862, 750 ; in 18.53, 838. The receipts of the last year, from subscriptions and the proceeds of concerts, considerably exceeded the expenditure ; and when we see that of this expenditure, no less than 50001. was laid out upon the concerts of the year, we perceive how much is done by the Society not only to the art but to the profession of music. It is satis- factory, too, to observe that, by more stringent regulations respecting re- hearses and other means, they are endeavouring to increase the efficiency of their band and chorus, and thus to raise still further the character of their concerts.
