The Picturesque St. Lawrence. Written and Illustrated by Clifton Johnson.
(Macmillan and Co. 5s. net.)—This is, we gather, the first volume of a "Picturesque River Series." It is a pleasant blend of the historical and descriptive, and gives a judicious selection of the many things that might be noticed in the great river. (It should be understood that it is the course of the St. Lawrence from Lake Ontario to the Atlantic with which Mr. Johnson deals.) There are between forty and fifty illustrations, taken from photographs.—Another useful handbook of travel is Southern Germany (Wiirtemberg and Bavaria), by Karl Baedeker (T. Fisher lJnwin, 6s. net), the "eleventh edition," revised.— With this we may mention Christophers' Handbook to the All-Bail Route (Christophers, 2s. net).
