Sir Peter's day
WEDNESDAY, 22 April will be a sad day in the calendar of Lloyd's of London. It is the day which the ruling Council has chosen, to announce the findings in the case of Sir Peter Green, the former chair- man of Lloyd's. The case concerns transac- tions with the Imperial Insurance Com- pany, of Grand Cayman, in which Sir Peter had an interest. As I reported six weeks ago (City and Suburban, 28 February), a Lloyd's disciplinary committee had found against Sir Peter, and recommended a five-figure fine. It was then open to Sir Peter to appeal, to an Appeals Tribunal, and after that it would be for the Council to make the findings public. It is in everyone's interest that Lloyd's should get this miser- able business behind it. This is not the sort of advertisement for the City and its regulars which the Government would welcome in mid election campaign.
