RAILWAY TIME-TABLES
[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—Referring to the letters in your issues of June 4th and 18th on the subject of Railway Time-tables, I remember being struck with the arrangement of a time-table which came into my hands when travelling on the Continent over forty years ago. In this the times for all trains between 6.0 a.m. and 5.59 pat. were printed in Roman type, and the times for those between 6.0 p.m. and 5.59 a.m. in Italic type.
The traveller-thus saw at a glance whether the time he read was day or night. • This is a great assistance to a stranger. I need hardly remind you that the plan of distinguishing parts of speech, genders and other matters by different types is carried out ingeniously in Bellow's pocket French dictionary.
—I am, Sir, &c., J. O'BRIEN. Oxley, near Brisbane, Queensland.
