CHEAPER TAXIS [To the Editor of MC SPECTATOR.]
SIR,—Mr. John Soutar's letter strikes home with the question —What is the good of cheaper petrol if we are not to have cheaper taxis ?
I agree with him that London taxi fares are scandalous. In Paris, where petrol is dearer, taxis arc cheaper. Petrol is retailed in Paris, I think, at the equivalent of ls. 100. a gallon against the low price of ls. Old. in London. Yet you can get inside a Paris taxi for a cheap franc, whereas you pay a dear shilling in London.—I am, Sir, &c., 55 Chancery Lane, W.C. 2. HERBERT WARREN.
