Working and Living. By James Cromb. (Dundee: Lang.)—This s a

volume of pleasantly-written sketches, reprinted, for the most part, from a Scottish publication, The People's Friend. Some are of the more serious, as that which gives a title to the book, some of a lighter kind. Among the latter, the sketch "Pleasures of Angling and Anglers" is as good as any. It evidently comes from the writer's own experience, and is written con amore. Who sometimes does not know the deplorable feeling of dismay with which, after looking ten times into every pocket, the angler comes to the conclusion that he has left his fly-book on the table at home ? The fish, of course, are rising, as they rise only once in a decade.
