A WISE DOG.

[To THE EDITOR OP TAB " SPECTATOR." ]

SIR,—The following extract from a letter dated December 21st, 1890, written by a young Englishman who is working on a railway in Texas, U.S.A., may interest you :-

" DEAR DAD,— The gang with whom I work have a little dog named 'Fannie.' She comes out with us to the works when they aro not too far from the camp. About throe weeks ago, she was on the railway.bridge with us, but did not et off when a train came ; so she just flattened herself down in the middle of the bridge on a tie, and lay still until the train passed. Then she got up most sedately and walked home, looking neither to the right nor to the left. Since then she keeps off the bridge as much as possible, and contents herself with roaming about the banks of the river."
